Atoms are made up of protons, neutrons and electrons. The electrons are negatively charged particles, the protons are positively charged, and the neutrons have a neutral charge. Although protons are positively charged and electrons are negatively charged, protons are equal to electrons. Sometimes atoms bond, there are different types of bonds, such as: covalent bond and an ionic bond. Covalent bonds share electrons and form when electronegativity is the same or close to the same. Ionic bonds form when electrons are transferred from one atom to another. In other words, covalent bonds share electrons and ionic bonds give away electrons. The atom that gives the electron away becomes positive, because electrons are negative. In science opposites attract, what is positive will be attracted to the negative and vice versa. However with polarity non polar is not attracted to polar.
